Screen & UI
These settings control how the screen behaves while Arrivals Board is running and whether the settings button is visible.
Settings¶
Open Settings > Screen & UI to access these options.
| Setting | Options | Default |
|---|---|---|
| Keep Screen Awake | On / Off | On |
| Settings Button | Auto-hide / Always / Never | Auto-hide |
Keep Screen Awake¶
When enabled, the screen will never dim or lock while Arrivals is in the foreground. This is the recommended setting for always-on displays and wall-mounted iPads.
When disabled, the device follows its normal auto-lock behavior.
Screen burn-in
Keeping the screen awake indefinitely may cause image burn-in on some displays. This is most relevant for OLED screens (including recent iPads and many TVs). Consider using Sound Hours or Shortcuts automations to turn off the display overnight.
Warning
Disabling Keep Screen Awake means you may need to unlock your device to see the board after a period of inactivity. For always-on setups, leave this enabled.
Settings Button¶
Controls whether the gear icon appears on the board, and how it behaves. Because Arrivals is designed to run for months at a time, the default avoids keeping any bright static element on screen, which can cause burn-in on OLED displays.
| Option | Behavior |
|---|---|
| Auto-hide (default) | The gear stays hidden for a clean, immersive board, then briefly fades in when you interact --- touch the board on iPad, or press any button on the Siri Remote --- and fades back out after a few seconds. Nothing static remains on screen. |
| Always | The gear stays on the board. While idle its backlight goes dark --- a dim grey silhouette --- and lights up amber when you interact. A persistent, always-visible control that still avoids a bright static element. |
| Never | No gear is shown at all. Reach Settings with the gesture below. |
Coming from an earlier version
If you previously had the settings button turned on, it now uses Auto-hide --- the gear is still there, it just waits for you to touch the board (or press the remote) before appearing. Choose Always if you'd rather it stay put.
Opening Settings any time¶
Whatever you choose above, one gesture always works --- even in Never mode:
Touch and hold anywhere on the board background to open Settings.
Press Play/Pause on the Siri Remote to open Settings.
The first time you launch Arrivals, a brief on-screen hint teaches this gesture. It also reappears once if you switch the setting to Never, so you are never locked out.
